George Couture (1925 - ) enlisted in 1942 at the age of 17. He was with the Winnipeg Rifles on June 6th, 1944 when they landed in Normandy. Just three days after they landed their company was travelling in a truck that was hit by a German shell. All the crew were killed except for George and one other soldier. They were both taken prisoner and spent the remainder of the war as POW's.
