Capt (Ret’d) Tom Smith

Capt (Ret’d) Tom Smith was born in Sunderland, United Kingdom. He joined the British Army in 1974, serving in the Royal Armoured Corps, and deploying several times on operations to Northern Ireland and Cyprus. He also served in West Germany before leaving the service in 1992 and emigrating to Canada. He joined the South Alberta Light Horse in Medicine Hat in 1993 and was later appointed as its regimental sergeant major. After commissioning from the ranks he deployed to Afghanistan in 2006. He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2008.
