MCpl (Retired) Ralph Scholz was born in Calgary. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in Red Deer in 1972. Originally in the artillery, he remustered to the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1976 before deploying to Cyprus as a reservist in 1978. The following year he transferred to the Regular Force. In 2012 he transferred back to the Army Reserve, retiring in 2015.
