Sgt Will Barnard was born in Empangeni, South Africa. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 2002 and is an artilleryman with 20th Independent Field Battery in Lethbridge. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. He was promoted to sergeant in 2015.
